ChatGPT for Small Businesses: 12 Marketing Prompts That Save Hours

AI only helps with your marketing when you ask it the right way. Here are 12 proven prompts for copy, ads, social media and competitor analysis – just copy them and fill in the blanks.

Most people ask ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini a one-line question, get a generic answer and conclude that “AI writes boring stuff”. The problem isn't the tool, it's the brief. A good prompt has four parts: who you are, who you're writing for, exactly what you want and in what format.

The basics: tell the AI who you are

Before the first task, paste a short description of your business into the conversation. It saves you repeating yourself:
“I'm a [what you do] in [city/region]. My customers are [who]. They most often need help with [problem]. What makes me different is [advantage]. I write in a friendly tone, without jargon.”

Copy for your website and ads

  1. “Write 10 headline options for my homepage. Each at most 8 words, with a concrete benefit for the customer, without clichés like ‘quality’ and ‘professional’.”
  2. “Suggest 15 headlines and 4 descriptions for a Google Ads ad for the keyword [keyword]. Headlines at most 30 characters, descriptions at most 90.”
  3. “Rewrite this text to half its length so that someone who knows nothing about the topic understands it: [text].”

Social media

  1. “Suggest a 4-week content plan for Facebook and Instagram – 3 posts a week. For each, give the topic, format (photo, carousel, video) and the first sentence.”
  2. “Turn this blog article into 5 short social media posts with a call to action: [article text].”
  3. “Write a script for a 30-second Reels video showing [product/service]. The first 3 seconds must grab attention.”

Customers and sales

  1. “What are customers' most common questions and concerns when buying [service]? Suggest a short website answer for each.”
  2. “Write a polite email to a customer who asked for a quote and hasn't replied for a week.”
  3. “Suggest a reply to this negative review – calm, factual and offering a solution: [review].”

Analysis and strategy

  1. “Here are texts from three competitors' websites. Summarise what they offer, how they communicate and what none of them mentions: [texts].”
  2. “Explain these Google Analytics numbers in plain language and suggest 3 steps I should take: [numbers].”
  3. “Suggest 20 blog topics my customers are searching for, sorted from those closest to a purchase.”
