Why Your Business Needs Local SEO and How to Set It Up in One Day

If you have a physical location or serve customers in a specific region, local SEO matters more to you than any other form of marketing. Find out how to get into the Google Local Pack…

If you run a shop, a restaurant, a salon, a repair service or any business that serves customers from a specific city or region — local SEO matters more to you than any other form of marketing.

Local SEO makes sure that when someone in your city types a search term with a location into Google — you show up. Without it, you risk customers finding your competitors before they find you.

What is local SEO?

Local SEO is optimising your online presence so that Google shows you for searches with local intent. The results appear in the so-called Local Pack — a map with 3 businesses shown above the organic results. Getting into the Local Pack is the holy grail of local SEO — clicks from this section convert very well.

Step 1: Google Business Profile — the foundation of everything

Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is your business card on Google. It is free and it is the most powerful local SEO tool. If you don't have one, set it up today.

What to fill in completely:

Step 2: Consistent NAP data

NAP = Name, Address, Phone. These three pieces of information must be identical everywhere your business is listed online — on your website, in your Google Business Profile, on Facebook and in directories. Any inconsistency confuses Google and lowers your local rankings.

Step 3: Reviews — your powerful ally

When ranking local businesses, Google looks at the number and quality of reviews. More and better reviews = a higher position in the Local Pack. After every job well done, send the customer a direct link to leave a Google review. The response rate is much higher than with a general request.

Step 4: Local keywords on your website

Your website should contain local keywords — a combination of your service and your city. For example: web design Bratislava, graphic design Košice, PPC advertising Slovakia. Put these words into page titles, meta descriptions and text.

Step 5: Local citations and directories

Register your business in relevant directories:

Every directory listing is also a backlink, which strengthens your overall SEO score.

Local SEO results — when to expect them?

With consistent work you will see the first movement within 4 to 8 weeks. A complete Google Business Profile with 10+ reviews and correct NAP data can get a business into the Local Pack within 2 to 3 months.
