Google Ads catches people who are already searching; Meta Ads reaches those who don't yet know they need you. I compare costs, strengths and the types of businesses that suit one platform, the other, or both at once.
"We have a small budget – should it go to Facebook or to Google?" I hear this question from almost every new client. The answer isn't "whatever the competition uses", but how your customers make decisions.
Google Ads is advertising on demand. It appears to someone who is typing "plumber near me" or "wooden cutting board" into Google right now. They have a problem and are looking for a solution – you are just one click away.
Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) is advertising on attention. People scroll, they aren't looking for anything, and your ad catches their eye. It can create demand that didn't exist before – for example the desire for a new product they had never heard of.
Indicative figures for the Slovak market:
A click from Google is usually more expensive, but the person is closer to buying. A click from Meta is cheaper, but the visitor often needs more time and more touchpoints with the brand before deciding. So don't compare cost per click – compare cost per customer acquired.
For most of my clients, the two platforms work best together:
If you have, for example, €300 a month:
After 4–6 weeks, look at the numbers and move the budget to where the cost per customer is lowest.
Whatever you choose, without properly set-up conversion tracking (Google Analytics 4, Meta Pixel, Google Ads conversions) you don't know which platform actually makes you money. Tracking is the first thing I set up in every project.
Google Ads captures demand that already exists. Meta Ads creates new demand. So the question isn't "which one is better", but "where do my customers make decisions" – and most often the answer is: in both places.
